My trainer invited me and my housemate to go with him to go stay at his friend's ranch in Aspen to go watch the X Games. I didn't really have anything else to do, so I went.
After a terrible drive through ice, snow and closed highways we made it to the ranch after 8 hours. The next day we watched all the XTREME events one could ever want. I was miserable most of the time due to cold wet feet (which prompted me to waterproof my shoes today).
In the end I had an OK time and did enjoy myself at the 1000 acre ranch. And I got to see several foxes everyday.
There are actually 3 foxes in the picture if you can find them. Hearing them bark for the first time was pretty cute and entertaining.
I've been slacking with the blogging, but I have also been pretty busy whilst on my Winter Break.
Winter Break activities ranged from hanging out at home with old friends to taking a road trip to Canada to do some super epic snow activities. I'll update on all of that soon since I will have plenty of time due to me being back in school. I'm just kidding about the free time, but I will definitely be blogging again since I am back with some good material.
But enough with the excuses...
Today as we all know was the day of "Change" as well as my first day of classes. I'm pretty excited to see the changes from the that should come about.
It has kinda fueled me to do a bit of changing of my own. I've got big plans for this '09 year. Pretty excited indeed.
You would think that my favorite part of the holiday season would be the gift giving and receiving. For me, it's actually the holiday music. I can always indulge in the shopping, partying, and baking. But the music is really only appropriate between late November and Christmas day.
I was driving back from the family party when Wham came on. After that, I decided to turn the radio off and make that my last song for the season.
Even if you hate the song, the music video is epically awesome. SNOW and SEXUAL TENSION and CABINS and TACKY XMAS SWEATERS! Isn't that what we all want our holidays to be like?
Christmas may be over but there is still plenty of celebrating and fun to be had. I hope you all had a very merry Christmas.
The part that I really like the most is probably the intro where the first screen shot is faded out with the building. IDONO. I just really like the song and wanted to share with anyone who has yet to hear it.
...I've kinda been lazy with blogging. Well, I have been occupied with finals and such so I think that is a good enough excuse for lame posts.
BUT... Here is another lame post. There will be some entertaining ones soon (believe me!)
ANOTHER SNOW PIC! This one is of the alley I live in. The snow kind of gives our dark alley a really warm feeling. AND ...PUMPKIN FUDGE! I made it for a holiday party I went to last night. It was a hit for sure. Thank you Smart Cookie.
So, my roommate wanted to have his Alaska friends over for dinner. I thought this would be boring because of the fact that I wasn't part of the trip. So I decided to have us all bake desserts and have a bake off. These treats were our dishes. Pumpkin spice fudge cookies with banana slices along side chocolate pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust. Good people, food, and atmosphere. GO HOLIDAY PARTIES!
After an irregulary hot winter, the first snow has come. Just yesterday I thought that I would miss the warmth and sun once it got cold. But after having the snow for just one day I decided that it felt right. It even gave me a better holiday feeling.
Yeah, the most enjoyable part of the snow has been taking bike rides and skidding. I've already crashed once because of this.
Let me start this off by saying that Oregon was AMAZING! I ended up having one teammate flying up with me to compete with me. We also got to have one of our 'coaches' who lived in Oregon to give us housing and transportation. So no big expenses (minus my overweight axe box). In three of my four events I ended up with 4th in Caber toss, 3rd in Climbing and 3rd in Hard Hit. I also managed to make myself somewhat of a legend in the logging community by winning an arm wrestling match while pounding a beer.
I ended up being one of the better competitors and making sure everyone knew who I was.
