Oregon: The Results

Let me start this off by saying that Oregon was AMAZING! I ended up having one teammate flying up with me to compete with me. We also got to have one of our 'coaches' who lived in Oregon to give us housing and transportation. So no big expenses (minus my overweight axe box).

In three of my four events I ended up with 4th in Caber toss, 3rd in Climbing and 3rd in Hard Hit. I also managed to make myself somewhat of a legend in the logging community by winning an arm wrestling match while pounding a beer.

I ended up being one of the better competitors and making sure everyone knew who I was.

Gee wiz, I sure do love logging.

Oregon...

So, I was supposed fly and meet my teammates in Oregon today. But last night I got a call telling me the team was turning around due to bad weather. This resulted in the team scratching itself from the competition. Because my flight plans were solid my team gave me the opportunity to go compete by myself.

Now, I am taking a full sized luggage and axe box. I'm pretty excited but also pretty sad. I'll miss having the team there for sure, but I will make sure to work hard. SUPER hard.

Wish me luck.

Want #3

So I got a flurry of ideas with Holga camera and I'd like to share!

-I want to use 40 pictures or so on one shot. Then make a 'window frame' to puzzle all of the pieces together. I'm thinking maybe a picture of the view out of my LA house window in my room here in Fort Collins.

Yeah...

Maybe I only have one idea, but I am super DOOPER excited about this.

and this is pretty cool too!

Want number 3 is this LOMOgraphy action camera.

Amazing I say. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

oh.Oh.OH!

I am going to Oregon this weekend to go log it up. I am pretty excited for that too!

Excited! E-X-C-I-T-E-D.

The Family Wall

Tonight the family (minus 1) took advantage of the WONDERFUL evening weather and hung out outside.
Then, as I looked through our screen door, I remembered I wanted to share the family wall with anyone who read this.

The wall used to be a GINORMOUS blank 16x24 foot wall. We came up with the idea of putting up each of the roommates state flags to take up all that empty space. It turned out pretty classy if you ask me.

Word.

PS - Just in case you wondering about the flags: (from top left going clockwise) Colorado, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California.

The Andrews Sisters

So in my house my radio is usually on in the kitchen playing whatever is on the local 'classics' station. I've listened to it enough that I can start to remember different songs. One of the songs that I really enjoy is "Rum & Coca Cola" by the Andrews Sisters.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Have a splendid day peoples!!!

My First Chocolate Chip Cookies

In the past four weeks I have baked dozens of different cookies, muffins and other tasty things for friends and the logging team. I finally decided to try the standard chocolate chip cookie recipe from Never Bashful With Butter.
They turned out thinner than I expected but they are UBER tasty.

Thank you again Never Bashful With Butter.

My Favorite Hobby

When I came to Colorado I knew one person. I struggled to make any friends of my own without this guy. So I randomly joined the logging team in hopes of making some. I was lucky to find what I think is the perfect group for me here.
This picture take by a friend sums up the logging aura. Everyone on the team was out moving metric ass loads of wood while hungover. Out of the twelve hours we were out there four of them were probably inefficiently spent skipping stones, making PB&Js or taking scheduled naps in grass infested with grasshoppers and cow pie (we harvest at a dairy farm).

We were given a hula hoop during a ten day long trip and we ended up hoopin' at one of the most beautiful places I have been in the US. I didn't even know about Glacier National Park.

I've also met friends through loggers that have got me into situations that I would never expect for myself. Climbing trees and making an ass out of yourself in front of the whole campus is fun with the right people.

They are my surrogate family while I am away from Los Angeles.

...and yes I got a picture with our new president with four other loggers.

Logging seems to take up all my mind and time nowadays. But I don't think that is a bad thing right now. My family is coming out for my competition this weekend. It may seem like a useless hobby and a waste of time to them but I am just excited that they finally get to see what I love doing. It is also more important to me that they come to this than my late graduation ceremony.

If I go to grad school I am going to look for a school that has a logging team.

Thank you for reading all my blabbering.

My Political Minute.

I am scared and excited. Politics has never been my passion but this election definitely means more than the usual election.
I hope this man wins but if he doesn't then I only hope for the best.

Photo Contest

So, about a month ago I found out about a photo contest on my campus that was themed towards world locations.
Luckily, I had some from the cruise from the summer and sent 6 or so. 200 pictures were chosen out of 900 to be judged for prizes. I am not really looking for a win, but I am still pretty excited that i get to keep the print and the frame after.
